When Waver's professor was killed in the Fourth War, it left the El Melloi family without a proper heir. Instead, it works through Waver to explain the world of mages and magic. However, Case Files is not the story of a Holy Grail War.
The death of his Servant at the hands of Gilgamesh is still a vivid memory and it doesn't help that the Fifth Holy Grail War is fast approaching. Waver Velvet has taken up a teaching position at the Clock Tower in London but is still plagued by nightmares and guilt due to his experiences during the events of Fate/Zero. The Special Episode featured a new song titled "Kimi ga Mita Yume no Monogatari", which was based on "starting the case: Rail Zeppelin" and was once again composed by Yuki Kajiura and performed by ASCA.The Case Files of El-Melloi II picks up ten years after the conclusion of the Fourth Holy Grail War.
The song "You Were My King" which plays in the final episode is a softer piano remix of "You Are My King", Iskandar's theme from Fate/Zero. "Hibari" was sung by ASCA, who had previously sung for Type-Moon on Fate/Apocrypha. Kajiura also composed the opening and ending themes, "starting the case: Rail Zeppelin" and "Hibari". The soundtrack was composed by Yuki Kajiura, who had also worked with Type-Moon on Kara no Kyoukai, Fate/Zero and Fate/stay night Heaven's Feel. As he is an anime-original character, he naturally was not on the train in the novels.
Luviagelita Edelfelt, Flat Escardos and Svin Glascheit have minor roles during the Rail Zeppelin case.
He never appeared in any of the light novels. Kairi Sisigou is a member of the cast.The anime gives Gray a crush on Waver that she did not have in the novels.
